Margo Fels Jarosz

Walford, Iowa

Margo Fels Jarosz was born and raised in the Amana Colonies.  However, after finishing high school she moved to Chicago to attend Ray-Vogue Art School.

After many non art-related career years, Margo resumed painting in 2000.  Since then, she has pursued her passion for creating unique works of art.   Ten years ago, Margo  returned to her native Iowa, where she has enjoyed her association with the Amana Arts Guild Gallery, and participating in their Festival of Arts.  Margo’s attention to detail is one of the hallmarks of her painting style, which she expresses on a wide variety of often unexpected painting surfaces..

Artist Statement

I work primarily in acrylics, and use a wide variety of supports found in nature.  Stones, slate, agate slices, shells and wood have all inspired my brush.  They each  have a story to tell.  To paraphrase Michelangelo describing his sculptures, “The painting is already complete within the stone before I start my work.  It is already there.”   My subjects are animals, birds, and flowers, with an emphasis on those found living in Iowa.
