Charlene Lawwill

Charlene Lawwill

Middle Amana, Iowa

Charlene has had a lifelong interest in art, and was planning to be an art major at Miami University in Ohio.  However, chemistry classes and an interest in medicine intervened so Charlene graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Medical Technology instead. Charlene would work in that field several years and then raise two children.  Then, while living in Louisville, Kentucky, Charlene studied metalsmithing and jewelry with Jane Samples, watercolor with Mickey Hacke, and oil painting with Lou Ann Iler. She continued her art studies with life drawing classes at the Kansas City Art Institute while living in that area.

Artist Statement

After living in many different areas of the country, I now live in the Amana

Colonies and appreciate the opportunity to paint my Iowa surroundings. I enjoy

the challenges of each new project, and learn every time I paint.
